I'm a major fan of Jill, but that doesn't mean I'd... erm, wait... yeah, actually I would.

Sorry, bad example. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm97/SpartanWarrior198/Resident%20Evil%20Final%20Days/smiley-ashamed004.gif

So has anyone got this game? I got it a few months ago and honestly, it was okay but nothing special.

Unlike RE5 I had no real push to replay the game once I had finished it, the whole experience was just a bit 'meh'

Not me. I decided against it after hearing Risky's (the OP of this thread) assessment. And she's the only person whose opinions on these things I hold in higher regard than Korny's.

The thing is, the run and gun "Mercenaries" mode has become the franchise's only real source of replayability, which is sad since just the story and gameplay alone used to be enough to make me replay the games over and over again. I still play REmake, Director's Cut, RE2, RE3, and CVX all the time even though I unlocked all the extras years ago.

Yano, I've never actually played mercenaries mode. I'll have to give it a go. I replayed RE5 at least 20 times though and got the platinum trophy on it, I really did enjoy that game. It wasn't the best RE game, not by any stretch. But I think with all of the treasures, guns, BSAA emblems and gun upgrades it gave you more of a push to replay the game. The only aspect of these RE6 had was the serpent emblems, I'd have enjoyed a full arsenal of guns to choose from and upgrade a lot more.

One other moan I have about the game is how they have split the game up into chapters. There are only 5 chapters for each set of characters and they are really, really long. Now this isn't a bad thing for the game per se, but I felt like every characters story was way too rushed and we couldn't really build a connection to the newer characters. I much preferred RE5 where we had a series of shorter chapters.

All getting one of every treasure netted you was a stupid trophy, which didn't really mean spit to me. IIRC, it was a similar situation with the BSAA emblems, too.

Most of the guns in the game were your typical action shooter choices (Desert Eagle, S&W 500, PSG1, MP5, etc.) that appear in every game with guns and they couldn't be physically customized for any cool factor, so there really wasn't any replayability there for me (the only guns I really wanted to use were Jill's Px4 and Wesker's Samurai Edge, neither of which were usable in the main game). And the upgrades were also too messed up and made no sense (the Beretta 92FS and SIG P226 are both 9mm with standard 15-round magazine capacities, so there's no reason whatsoever for the SIG to be a super gun and the Beretta not to).

The story was... well, it was crap I thought, TBH. That's kind of a big deal for me considering that in terms of story, the only other franchise that compared to the Resident Evil franchise in terms of depth and complexity was the only franchise that surpassed it--Metal Gear.

And don't even get me started on how sexualized Jill and Sheva were. I mean, was it really necessary to introduce Sheva with a freaking butt shot? http://serve.mysmiley.net/fighting/fighting0064.gif

I'm not busting your chops for liking it, but I didn't have as pleasant an experience.

Nah the upgrades didn't make much sense, but in a game set in Africa about zombies I don't really expect much tongue.gif . I just thought the game was a load more fun than 6 to be honest. Being able to upgrade all of the guns actually gave me something to strive for instead of just playing the game because I wanted to play it... Which might sound retarded, but I enjoy having something to strive for when I'm playing a game otherwise I get bored of it pretty quick.

Maybe my last post was a bit vague, the story in both games were terrible, I just felt like I could connect more with Sheva (and Chris although we've seen him previously) in 5 than I could with any of the new characters in 6. I thought Sheva was a decent character all in all, but I couldn't really give a rats ass about Jake, Piers or Helena - which is one of the reasons I disliked RE6.

The over-sexualisation of the female characters didn't really bother me much though, it's nothing new in todays society.

But it wasn't something RE was known for. I mean, Capcom couldn't put more effort into coming up with more practical alternate costumes instead of stripperific stuff like a leopard print bikini and slutty Red Riding Hood? And what about Jill's battlesuit being even lower cut in Extreme Battle Mode (or whatever it was called) than it was in the main game pr Mercs?

Yeah I get what you're saying. I've never noticed Jill's suit become sluttier though to be honest, I'll have to check that out.
