A reading forum staple. Please pin.

Here you share with us what you are reading. This can be books, comics, magazines, newspapers, manga, etc.

Example: Stephen King's "The Stand"

Nothing. Except the replies here.

But as for novels and books and such, the last thing I read was Code Veronica, the last of the SD Perry novels. Very good stuff, not CV as much as some of the others, but they are all top notch.

I also still need to read the Da Vinci Code.

LOL.

"I ALSO STILL NEED TO READ SOMETHING FROM THE NYT BESTSELLER LIST, YOU KNOW, WHEN I'M DONE WITH MY KIDDIE BOOKS!"

...Kidding. But not really.

Anyway! I'm reading...

*takes deep breath*

Storming Las Vegas: How a Cuban-Born, Soviet-Trained Commando Took Down the Strip to the Tune of Five World-Class Hotels, Three Armored Cars, And Millions of Dollars

Thanks to the awful sub-title, it's pretty self-explanatory. Hit me with your best shot, Risky!

Ha! I studied those heists and purported "mastermind" years ago. Just so you're aware, this book is riddled with historical inaccuracies; not to mention the inconsistencies in Vigoa's hyperbole. The author was clearly so awestruck by Vigoa's personality and intricately-woven tales of sensationalism that he couldn't be bothered with triviality such as cursory research or fact-checking. And I couldn't stomach the constant echo of Huddy's misguided political commentary on US-Cuba relations, either.

Overall, it's poorly written and overblown misinformation.

I'm rereading Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror for my counterterrorism class...and because I prefer feeling as powerless as possible before bedtime. wink.gif

...So, compost, yeah?

*Powers up paper shredder*

Oh, and Risky? If you really wanna feel as powerless as possible before you go to bed, which I can totally get behind, then read Gravity's Rainbow!

I swear, this brick-sized book is the most trippy experience you can have while you're sober...

i finnished reading the book by dave mustaine. i gotta say pretty intereting stuff in there. i was hoping he would talk about how he overdosed and revived. other than that it showed some hardhitting insight on those early 80's years.

a warning though, if u like metallica and want to keep believing there the best, then dont read this. cause once you read whats inside, u will hate metallica. i never like em myself to begin with.

I am now enthralled with the works of Terry Pratchett. Discworld is an amazing world to get lost in. Just read up and collected all of his City Watch books, now hunting down all of his Witches of Lancre books. Also finished up his Monstrous Regiment and The Truth, now sinking my teeth into Carpe Jugulum and Going Postal!

Right now I'm reading a book called 1973: Nervous Breakdown. It's a non fiction title about how that year was exactly as the title says, a nervous breakdown for the USA politically and culturally. It's very interesting.
