Model-turned-actress Milla Jovovich has confirmed there will be another Resident Evil film in the franchise and movie bosses have decided to shoot it in earthquake-ravaged Japan.

The fourth movie in the series, Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, was released last year (10), debuting at the top of the U.S. box office chart, and Jovovich admitted at the time she would love to make another installment.

Now she has revealed a fifth movie is being planned by telling her fans on Twitter.com, "I love Tokyo! 1 (sic) of my favourite cities in the world! We're gonna come film some scenes 4 (sic) the nxt (next) RE (Resident Evil) in Tokyo!!!"

Jovovich is pleased they are filming in the country following the devastating earthquake and tsunami which hit the region earlier this year (11), adding, "I pray 4 (sic) Japan everyday and I can't wait 2 (sic) go there and shoot the nxt (sic) RE!"

If Paul corrects her, I'll edit this thread. In the meantime, what are we thinking--who's looking forward to continuing the movie franchise and who wants it dead?

Posted by: Spartan198 May 13 2011, 07:15 PM
I'm hoping it's better than Afterlife. I don't really care for "Retribution" as a subtitle, though.

Posted by: Spike991 May 14 2011, 08:36 PM
I'm not excited or anything, but I will watch it.

I did end up wanting to watch Afterlife(and did, in theatres) because of how stupid some things looked, like the Executioner.

I also really liked how they used A Perfect Circle's Outsider Remix in the trailers. And in the movie.

Oh, don't get me started, Risky. I wish Romero had his chance instead of being drummed out by Capcom in favor for this hack.

I'm so tired of Anderson's RE movies. I always shuffle up to the films with that little inkling of hope that it'll be at least somewhat decent, but I am always sorely disappointed and out a couple bucks afterwards. It's like a damn Skinner box, except progressively sh*ttier with each button press.

It never fails to depress me, seeing such potential, all that money and all that time, just squandered in Paul's useless filmed fanfiction with his beloved, unbearable Mary Sue and her impeccable, wire-worked Kung Fu. I loved how they took away her powers to prevent that overpowered feeling, but it's all null when she starts doing the tiresome, beyond-the-impossible Matrix tripe once more.

I also love how Alice never fails to outright replace the main characters, even going so far to make them look like crap most of the time. Remember when Jill saved that little schoolgirl, only to have Alice overshadow her by simply walking in with a cigarette, causing an explosion and posing totally cool, while Jill's slumped on the floor bleeding and bruised and looking dumb. God, Jill might as well have been wearing a Dunce cap.

Oh, how about that perfect, perfect Licker scene in the Church, the camera angles, the intensity, the sheer Resident Evilness complete with Jill, she was even moving like her! Then Alice just barges in with her stupid motorcycle and even stupider guns with holy crap just look how dumb this is Umbrella-manufactured bullets, and easily takes care of the Lickers that everyone was having so much trouble with. Without even breaking a sweat. I just love that.

And just so it's clear, by love, I mean all my utter f*cking hate.

Just by watching his films, you can tell he doesn't get Resident Evil at all, despite his claims to playing the game. Personally, I think he watched the first few minutes of someone playing each game, went on Wikipedia, mentally replacing Alice with any main character in any RE article, scribbled ideas that would be "cool," and by cool I mean suck as much money as possible from the fans, and finally banged out a script. I mean, how else would these awful films come to fruition?

His movies have become atrocities of Michael Bay proportions. Man, I'm so glad I didn't pay for Afterlife, just borrowed it from a friend. But I can completely understand why he was so pissed about buying it...

Well, whatever. Let Paul steer the course, it'll end up a trainwreck as always. For now, I'm still holding out for the inevitable reboot by a good director.

Well, as far as Alice is concerned, she has stolen a few trademark scenes. One in particular is Claire's handgun drop from the beginning of CVX, except Alice shoots down three Umbrella guys, instead of shooting an explosive barrel.

There's more stuff like that, but that's the only one I can think of. Alice is the main character of the movies though, so we should expect to see her doing stuff like that. Stealing everyone's lightning.

I think Anderson has played the games, but I also think RE is such a difficult thing to put into a movie form. I mean, I doubt Anderson has tried with all his might anyway, to make it as much like the games as possible, but that still doesn't make it easy. I mean RE is such a unique experience, that IDK can truly be recreated in a film.

First, the cinimatic experience can probably be done. There are also other aspects of the gameplay, like the way the story is unveiled, like with the Files that you read, obviously they aren't going to post text up on the movie screen for everybody to read. That was why Anderson used the Red Queen in the first RE film, he said.

The way you go through and try to survive, and all that survival entails....maybe that can be recreated. I guess a lot of the reading experience, giving tons of backstory to help set the mood and everything, that could be the challening part.

No, I was right. He watches other people play and probably pays them to do his "research" for him. He "literally watches days of the most awesome Resident Evil players out there to get inspiration for the next installment of the franchise," if Milla's word is anything to go by.

And looking at her Twitter, well...

Milla said that?

He seemed convincing enough to me, though just because the movies aren't all they can be doesn't mean he hasn't. Not that it matters I guess, as it doesn't seem like it's affected them too much, his playing the games affecting the movies.

As a fan, I'd like to think that I would do it different, if I were making them. Of course, I'd also do it CG for sure.

Yeah, that cleavage is hard to spot, just wanted to make sure everyone got a look.

Maybe they should just throw a little bit of that in the next RE film, it'll work.

Though I doubt Jovovich is up to that challenge.

I suggest bringing back the Jill actor for just that reason then, LOL. Milla did that cooch shot in the first movie, and that didn't do anything for me at all.

Better her than Milla! Milla originally wanted to be Jill. Can you imagine? Yuck.

Plus, Sienna Guillory actually played through the RE3 game studying Jill's moves, going so far as to incorporate her idle animation, aiming, and walking into her acting. She played the game. That's right. She did more research than the director ever did. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/wtf.gif

Did she really play RE3?

I know that she really got into the character's head, like an actress should, but I didn't know she researched anything. I remember watching the commentary long ago, and she talks about what the character is feeling, and all that.

Also, wasn't it before the REmake? So the animations for standing idle and walking(while armed) wouldn't have really been there.....wait, I think Apocolypse did come out after.....either way, she wasn't too bad, but nothing to write home about.

Also, Milla as Jill....I don't think so.

Posted by: Xander May 21 2011, 07:14 AM
Jill had idle animations in RE3. Leon, Claire, and Ada had them in RE2, too. Same goes for Chris and Jill in Director's Cut.

Right, but I didn't imagine that Sienna was just standing around long enough to utilize something like that. Not that she has to stand there for a certain amount of time to initiate it....

I know for certain though, that as far as holding the handgun went, for standing and walking, and running, was just at their side. That didn't change until REmake & RE0, where Jill(for example) would hold her handgun down with both hands, and while running, would hold it up. Chris was the opposite.

I can't wait to see how Anderson spins this... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm97/SpartanWarrior198/Resident%20Evil%20Final%20Days/smiley-scared002.gif

Oh, and also making their live action debuts are Leon Kennedy (yawn) and Barry Burton.

Where the hell do you get your news from, Spartan? ...Providing a source-link takes the bite out of my sarcasm, though. dry.gif

Originally, rumors began circulating that Sienna Guillory could be replaced--probably due to the lengthy duration she endured without signing any contract--and Bloody Disgusting confirmed via sources that something was indeed up and a replacement entirely feasible. This led to confusion as the media assumed Sienna was irreplaceable. Jill was always set to appear in Retribution...just not necessarily Sienna.

Anyway, that's old news. She, like her obnoxious co-star Milla, has been blowing up Twitter with all sorts of inside scoops and spoilers.

See Sienna train...

erm.... http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/wtf.gif Rain is alive? They better hope it's some kind of clone, cause sorry folks, she was turned AND took one to the head.....

Found this video on youtube, chick says something about flashbacks, but if you pay attention there is footage of Rain NOT in uniform. So doubting that avenue for them to take, I'm betting on some kind of clone.

Oh yeah, obviously this movie isn't gonna make any sense at all, but I'm still gonna watch it at least once.smile.gif

Now hopefully there is at least a good soundtrack. Anderson always seems to get that right.

I remember some Killswitch in Apocolypse. And he used one of my absolute favs, APC on a couple, including Afterlife. In fact, the APC song played during that fight at the end with Wesker.

I was pleased with that. Ha ha.

The most logical conclusion is that it's a clone of the original Rain intended to entrap Alice, the idea that she would hesitate in hurting something she perceives as someone she cares about.

But regardless of whether it's a clone or what, the fact that Rain is back can only make the movie better, at least for me, because I always liked Rain much more than Alice. And besides that, Michelle Rodriguez is a good actress. In a Hollywood full of Megan Foxes and Amanda Seyfrieds, good actresses are a rarity.

Would you say good actress? I mean I've only seen her in RE, FatF, and I think Blue Crush...but I don't know if it's so much that she's a great actress as much as she's just really cool and different. Kinda like Eliza Dushku, just that cool badgirl that we all love.

I mean I think Sean Penn is a really great actor. Hayden Christenson, depsite me butchering his last name, is not. Although I did like him as Anakin.

But anyway, Rain was definately something that makes the first RE movie fun to go back to.

Jessica Alba was in Blue Crush, not Michelle. I've seen Rodriguez in Battle: Los Angeles, SWAT (where, to be fair, her character was almost identical to Rain, except named differently), Machete, Girlfight, Bloodrayne, and Avatar. I believe she was also in a couple seasons of Lost, but I've only seen, like, one episode of the show which she wasn't in.

I'm not sold on her acting abilities just yet. Maybe I should check out a few of those movies you mentioned.

I've seen SWAT though, loved her in that.

Otherwise I still love Rodriguez. I always kinda hoped to see her in the games too. The Rain character or at least something close to.

A lot of aspects from the movies have actually shown up in the games, including the font.

But just a role of a USF member. Like HUNK's team that was slaughtered in the sewers...but anyway.

Got to agree with Spartan, Michelle Rodriguez is a good actress. I've like most of what I've seen her in. Here's her page on http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0735442/. It lists all her movies and such. smile.gif

I also agree with the reason, this is typical Umbrella type behavior. But they have, as usual, underestimated their enemy. tongue.gif Alice may hesitate for a moment, but it wouldn't stop her. If anything, it would make her more ticked and make her open the super sized can of whoop bootie on them tongue.gif http://209.85.48.12/11464/135/emo/fish.gif

You may find you can like them better if you don't try to think of them as part of the games. I remember reading an article and seeing an interview with Anderson that stated he never intended the movies to be a rehashing of the storyline from the games, he thought that would be boring. They were created with the explicit purpose of giving MORE storyline to the game. Basically a look at what else was goin on. When looked at this way you can enjoy them much better, except for Afterlife.... that one is just bad tongue.gif

@Ashe. I don't know what exactly warrants somebody being a good actor/actress, but I'm looking at it as far as acting abilities, the ones that can really make you believe their character is real, and become that character.

Provoke emotions....IDK if I can really describe it all.

But anyway, by that logic, I don't think I'd consider her a good actress.

You know there's the IT factor, and acting abilities.

I think a lot of the young actors and actresses don't fit that criteria too much. There are some, but I feel like most are just...lame. Like maybe they are reasonably good looking and think they're anything special up on the screen....

But I digress.

And as far as the movies go, that's the way it's gotta be. I don't look at them as being part of the games. If you're just looking at how different they are then you are doing it wrong.

Some people can't get over the fact that they aren't part of the games series and affect the games in no direct way. It's actually kind of annoying. Pure hate for Anderson for no reason.

I prefer to think of it as "beating the dead horse". The movies are a completely separate universe from the games and are therefor non-canonical. This is an established fact, not an ambiguously debated opinion. And while everyone is entitled their own opinion, they need to realize that there is an audience out there that doesn't want an exact retelling of the games in movie form. I know this because Ashe and I are among that audience. In the end, one always has the option of just not watching the movies, yet nearly everyone I've ever encountered act as if someone is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to watch.

What makes a good actress/actor is different for everyone. smile.gif This is the type of thing that really has no right or wrong response as it deals totally with personal preferences. An opinion really can't be viewed as right or wrong, that's why it's an opinion and not fact. tongue.gif

We didn't get to see any of what went on during the outbreak itself in regards to the regular population. All we get of that are the few snippets here and there through the files and such we found. The movies gave us that, and is what they were intended to do.

But I wouldn't go so far as to say the movies were a separate universe. Yes they omitted and/or changed a few characters. For example no Barry and the changes to Chris, (ie he's not in S.T.A.R.S) all the rest that appear from the game and movies are mostly the same. IE. Jill was an active S.T.A.R.S member, not suspended/fired for her reports about the critters in the Arklay Mountains, instead of it being hikers and such being just found mauled. For me, these are trivial issues, easily overlooked.

But I can see where they wouldn't be considered "canon" by some. The changing of Chris's character alone would have done that, seeing as he was one of the main characters of the first game. I'm kind of curious now to just how many major changes there actually were and if they really are major enough to cause this. Looks like I'll have somethin' to occupy my my time whilst I wait for a new episode of The Walking Dead on the 12th of Feb. tongue.gif

He, Leon, and Ada Wong will be making their movie debuts in Retribution.

In the end, one always has the option of just not watching the movies, yet nearly everyone I've ever encountered act as if someone is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to watch.

Well that is a perfectly good argument, but too much for some to fathom.

@Ashe, true, but judging them for something like their acting abilities is really what I'm judging Rodriguez by.

Having the "IT" factor helps and stuff, just being a fascinating person up on the screen, but there's also a passionate ability to really do it.

I know some people, *cough* Hayden Christensen *cough*, that aren't really what would be considered a great actor. I mean what did you think of him?

Not a Star Wars fan so not seen any of those, nor can I say I've seen anything else IMDb has listed in his bio.... He has the look of those who are cute but got no substance, but I shall have to reserve final determination til he makes a movie I want to see.... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm97/SpartanWarrior198/Resident%20Evil%20Final%20Days/rofl.gif

I actually really like him as Anakin anyway, so I don't really care. Haha.

Weird how so many people in Hollywood got a job, not because of any real talent, but because of people like me...

That's ok though. BTW, WTF?

Who cares of the movies don't follow the games, I love Alice & the fact that she is bad ass! Hated her losing her powers ESP when they make her useles without them, I don't like her being a 'normal' person, it's like we are back to the first movie again or something.

I agree with you there! I've always thought a movie series that directly followed the games would have been boring. And Anderson knew that and intended them to be another part of the story. We only saw certain things in the games, it was a city full of people, there are tons of different things that could be done building off of the games, which is what he has done. I do wish however, that since he did use some of the characters from the games he had left them alone and not changed them. Claire and Chris are 2 examples of main characters who got bio rewrites when it came to the movies.....

As I said in chat, while I like a powerful female character, I don't like any character to be so overpowered. Alice didn't need all special abilities to be "bad ass". She already was in her own right. She was awesome in RE1 before she got fiddled with.

Well, even super heroes that seem to be "all powerful" ( think superman) have their achilles heel (with superman it was kriptonite... Spelling???) I didn't see the reason Alice couldn't have had the same thing, plus in the third one it was mentioned by the white queen that her blood was the CURE To the virus so it doesn't make any since for them to take that away, no matter how much trouble she was for them.

They didn't take her blood away, they only did away with the ESP.

I agree, and that is why I didn't like the uber powered Alice too much. Her only Achilles heel seemed to be her humanity, except for in Extinction where they were able to shut her off. But that really didn't seem to be an Achilles heel for her because once she discovered they could do that she destroyed it and it was no longer usable, leaving her once again super powered.

They did think her blood could be turned into some kind of "cure" but they couldn't seem to figure out how to make that happen. Amazing really when you think about it, they can reanimate the dead but can't figure out how Alice seemed to bond with the virus....

Please, like reanimating the dead is such a great achievement? sleep.gif I can create a zombie just by tying someone to a chair and forcing them to listen to Justin Beiber songs. If that won't give someone the urge to eat raw human flesh, then I don't know what will. tongue.gif

Hahaha that's funny smile.gif. The reason why zombie apocalypse flicks are so popular is there is something very scary about being eaten alive like a zebra on the African savannah lol.

Anderson should also take some ideas from the fiction that's out there, a lot of good sh**t out there.

Hahaha that's funny smile.gif.  The reason why zombie apocalypse flicks are so popular is there is something very scary about being eaten alive like a zebra on the African savannah lol.

It's a combination of primal fear and pre-modern superstitions. Humans aren't biologically predators, so the fear of being hunted and devoured by a superior predator remains deep in the back of our minds. It's one of the reasons we fear large cats such as lions and tiger so much, because they were the no. 1 predator of prehistoric man. Additionally, many of the rituals carried out today when burying the dead are remnants of a belief system of keeping them from coming back. Things like bolting coffins shut was never a response of any kind to corpse farmers or any of that BS. I mean, why do we need to bolt something shut when it's going to be buried six feet in the ground? It's to keep the dead dead.

Another common ritual is to carry the body out of the home feet first. Most people think--or know--nothing of it, but it's done in the belief that if the dead can't see where they came from, they can't return to plague the living. Even hospitals, nursing homes, and morgues follow this ritual, many of which don't even know why they do it... but they do it.

Other less common methods of keeping the dead where they're put to rest is sealing up the doorway that the body was removed through (if there's no door, they can't get in) and the placing of a brick or stone in the corpse's mouth (so they can't feed; although that does seem a bit illogical since the dead can't starve to death XD).

It's for reasons like this that I find the living dead to be the scariest of all "monsters". If you guys haven't seen it, a documentary that occasionally airs on the History Channel called Zombies: A Living History (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2077909/) goes into much of this in detail and is a really good watch which I highly recommend to anyone who's a fan of zombie fiction of any kind.

We're predators .... Jus not the "top" one, if it wasn't for our smarts, we would be a lot lOwer on the food chain.

So I finally caught Retribution on TV last night.

I didn't care for Kevin Durand as Barry, because he was a bit on the scrawny side and played the character with a little too much cockiness. Him shouting "I'm enjoying myself!" in the middle of a firefight didn't really vibe with me.

Johann Urb as Leon was so-so, I guess. I've gotten to where I don't like Leon that much anymore, so any opinion I give would probably be "biased". rolleyes.gif

On the upside, Li Bingbing was a pretty good Ada. Her accent put me off a little (yeah, I get Ada is supposed to be Chinese, but come on and look at the character, for Pete's sake; you can tell she's not entirely of Chinese heritage), but otherwise she was good.

Sienna Guillory happily didn't look like Phoebe from Friends this time around (lol) and she and Alice had a pretty good fight scene at the end. And by "pretty good", I mean Alice got her ass handed to her pretty much through the entire thing. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm97/SpartanWarrior198/Resident%20Evil%20Final%20Days/rofl.gif

Alice obviously hasn't changed. Whether for good or bad, I don't know anymore. dry.gif

And it was good to see Rain again, with her being my favorite movie-exclusive character.

The plot was meh, and key events from Afterlife aren't explained; namely how Luther survived and what happened to Chris, Claire, and K-Mart when Umbrella attacked the Arcadia in the opening of the film. The film at least didn't have the incomplete feeling of its predecessor, though.

I had wished Afterlife was just a fluke, but this sadly isn't so.
